Gene Perret, one of the nation’s top comedy writers, will judge the Boulder Writers’ Workshop 2013 “Make Me Laugh” Writing Contest.  Contest winners who live in Colorado will be eligible to have their works published in the Flatirons Literary Review. The top ten winners and finalists for the contest will be invited to read their work at a special BWW event in late October in Boulder, Colorado, date and place to be announced.
The top three winners will receive comments by Perret and the top ten winners will receive comments by Lori DeBoer, BWW director. Prizes being awarded are:  $100, first place; $75, second place and $50, third place.

Perret has been a comedy writer since the early 1960s, and has written for comedians such as Slappy White and Phyllis Diller. He’s been a television comedy writer and producer since 1968 and has earned seven Emmy nominations, including one for original music, and two Writer’s Guild Award nominations. He has captured three Emmy awards and one Writer’s Guild Award as part of the Carol Burnett Show writing staff.  Perret produced “Welcome Back, Kotter,” “Three’s Company,” and “The Tim Conway Show.” Perret also worked on Bob Hope’s writing staff for 28 years, from 1969 until the comic’s retirement, spending many of those years as Hope’s head writer. During that time, Perret wrote for all of Bob’s personal appearances and television specials and traveled with the Bob Hope troupe to war zone.
